23/02/09

Today was a lesson in which much of it was devoted to organizing the actions for the play and going through our lines as well, so as to get a view of what we are saying. I enjoy this type of lesson, as it allows me to register my lines through visual cues and is easy to remeber. I found it hard to work with others in the group this lesson, but am sure that it will pass by. My lines are my top priority at the moment and also want others to learn their lines as well. I feel I may be being a bit bossy with trying to get everyone to do what I think is right and not asking first.

20/02/09

This lesson was very similar to the last in that we were just improvisiong on the play and coming up with new ideas about staging and bonuses for characters. We need to time the play better, as we found that the majority of the comedy seen in 100% version has alot to do with the actors being realy, really, really bad and messing up with words and timing. I thought that not having Mitch was both a good and bad, as we worked better but at the same time were missing a vital character. I thought that in this lesson I served as more of a leader again, and helped with coreographing the staging and character building.

More Ideas on Play

 - open the story with goldilocks or star wars
 - link the story with other popular culture
 - narration from the audience
 - split personalities
 - female (me) with fake boobs and/or a wig
 - actors constantly confused with the play

Today we set out to learn our lines and coreograph the staging. Mrs Quinn told us that the actual actual performance and stage presence was the most important thing , so we are heavily working on the staging of the scene. I thought this lesson was very productive, as we came to a decision on the characters and play at this time and now had peace of mind to set out and learn our lines. I thought as a technique to learn them I could put it on my ipod and possibly record the play at a performance to recieve a view of the whole play.

Today we ran through our scripts and looked at what we need to edit in and out of the play. We pretty much sat there and went throught the script to have a full understand of the words used in the play, which is quite tricky to get a grip on. What we are really looking between is the 100% Shakespeare or the abridged version that could be funnier. I think that we should go with the 100% version as the acutal play is already. We also agreed on characters today and I thougt that my female character would be both interesting and challenging, which I am pleased and up for the challenge.

Today our lesson was very difficult as we go pretty much got no where, which I thought was due to myself and others not having scripts and Mitch messing around all the time. I fell that if we dont start to concentrate and people are not contributing many ideas. I feel that all of the ideas that we actually go with are from me, but I could be wrong. I just felt that if some people put into the play it could actually be very funny, we are just not up to our full potential. I thought that even this lesson I was distracted and could not concentrate.

Instead of our usual practical filled double drama lesson, we were watching a play performed by students called 'Citizenship' and was about a 16 year old boy who was trying to find his sexuality, which was interesting with him trying to find out who he was. The characters had very good stage presence and were never doing anything for no reason. The actual performance I thought was not up to our standard (joking), but it interested me to see what other students our age were doing and how they were acting. They made the transition between funny and serious very well and I thought we could incorporate that into our play.
